Situated in pristine Hervey Bay with a unique bushland setting that supports a large native bird habitat, Kirami is a fully-accredited aged care facility strengthened by a team of value-driven professionals who sincerely care about what they do and what they bring to our organisation. The Aboriginal word Kirami, meaning ‘home’ or ‘place of care’, represents the commitment of our staff in providing the highest standards of aged care service. We are currently looking for a volunteer Kitchen Assistant to work with our paid staff, assisting with meal preparation and service. 

Working under the guidance of the Chef/Cook, the volunteer will help with getting meals ready, serving morning tea and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean and sparkling!

To be successful you will need:            

  • An interest in cooking and food preparation - previous experience in a commercial kitchen or catering facility would be beneficial
  • Experience in hospitality service, food handling and ability to make a great cuppa!
  • An understanding of Food Safety and Hygiene Guidelines and a commitment to keeping the workplace safe, clean and tidy
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and working with minimal supervision
  • The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to different ages and cultures
  • A patient, friendly and mature attitude that shows respect, care and courtesy towards

Other requirements include:

  • Availability – at least one shift (4 hours) per week during business hours
  • Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis for at least 6 months
  • Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description which includes a confidentiality agreement
  • Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader , Doctor or other Professional)
  • National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one
